a) What is the charge of calcium ion in CaCl?

b) How many electrons are present in the outermost shell of calcium ion ?

    a) The electronic configuration of Cl is 2,8,7. Hence a chlorine atom needs one more electron.Two chlorine atoms need one  electron each. . Hence calcium atom loses two electrons to become calcium ion and its charge is +2.

    b)Calcium atom loses two electrons to form calcium ion ,which is a  stable ion .Hence calcium ion has 8 electrons in its outermost shell.
